  8. This is the seventh free update patch to PageStream3. This update
  9. implements more features and fixes many problems. The main new
  10. feature of this release is landscape printing to non-PostScript
  11. printers, but there are many other newly implemented features in
  12. this release as well as bug fixes.
  13.  
  14. Text entry and non-PostScript printing speed is unchanged in this
  15. release.
  16.  
  17.  
  18. TUTORIAL LESSONS
  19. ----------------
  20. Lessons 1, 2 and 5 can be successfully completed with this
  21. version. Lessons 3 and 4 cannot be done at this time due to
  22. unimplemented features in PageStream3. The files required for
  23. lesson 2 are included with this update.
  24.  
  25. You MUST refer to the manual errata section of the help system for
  26. last minute manual changes before completing the tutorial lessons.
  27. Because the tutorials were designed before the program was
  28. complete, there are important changes which you must be aware of
  29. before starting. (Click on the Manual Errata gadget in the main
  30. help system contents screen.)

  33. JPEG IMPORT/EXPORT
  34. ------------------
  35. A JPEG import/export filter is now available for PageStream3. This
  36. filter is sold separately for $20 directly from Soft-Logik.
  37. Contact us at the phone numbers or address at the end of this file
  38. to order. This filter can be used in PageStream3 and BME.

  41. WORDWORTH DOCUMENT LOADING
  42. --------------------------
  43. The Wordworth document filter (which will open entire Wordworth
  44. documents as opposed to importing text into a text frame) will be
  45. available in approximately one month for $20.
  46.  
  47.  
  48. CHANGES FROM 3.0f TO 3.0g
  49. -------------------------
  50.  
  51. TEXT:
  52. - Implemented quadruple click to select an entire article.
  53. - Starting a new text frame or object while text is highlighted
  54.   will now deselect the text.
  55. - You no longer have to press Return in the Tab requester's text
  56.   gadgets for your changes to take effect.
  57. - Fixed applying of style tags spelled with characters greater
  58.   than 128.
  59.  
  60. FONTS:
  61. - Large and complex PostScript fonts that did not work with
  62.   previous versions of PageStream3 should now work.
  63. - Fixed some character mapping problems (apostrophe types,
  64.   centered periods etc.)
  65. - Fixed the display of the closesnglquote character for PostScript
  66.   fonts.
  67. - Fixed oblique PostScript fonts. Characters were backslanted
  68.   instead of slanted.
  69. - Rendering a PostScript or DMF font (the first time before it is
  70.   cached) is up to 15% faster now, depending on your processor.
  71. - Fixed slanting and twisting of Compugraphic fonts beyond 50
  72.   degrees.
  73.  
  74. PRINTING, ALL TYPES:
  75. - Fixed printing of chapter level pages.
  76.  
  77. POSTSCRIPT PRINTER DRIVER:
  78. - Fixed printing of color separations. (Note: spot colors are not
  79.   yet implemented.)
  80. - Fixed printing of merged paths. (The overlapping areas printed
  81.   as filled instead of unfilled in 3.0f.)
  82. - Fixed printing of arrowheads.
  83. - When you choose a PPD file, the default filename will now be the
  84.   last used PPD file.
  85. - Thumbnail printing: now inserts 15% as the default scale so that
  86.   you don't accidentally print 100% thumbnails. Correct page
  87.   numbers are now printed with crop and reg marks for thumbnails.
  88. - Fixed printing of bitmap fill patterns.
  89. - Fixed an obscure dashed line problem.
  90.  
  91. ALL NON-POSTSCRIPT PRINTER DRIVERS:
  92. - Implemented landscape printing to non-PostScript printers!!!
  93. - Implemented faster and better quality Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
  94.  
  95. EPSON PRINTER DRIVER:
  96. - The Epson driver no longer has a 1/2" margin at the bottom for
  97.   continuous paper.
  98. - Added more Canon models to the Model list.
  99.  
  100. FARGO PRINTER DRIVER:
  101. - The Fargo driver now supports the PrimeraPro as well as the
  102.   Primera. (This was actually added in 3.0e, but the output quality
  103.   has been improved to a usable level in this version.)
  104. - Improved color correction has been implemented for wax thermal
  105.   output on the Fargo Primera and Primera Pro.
  106. - Improved 4 color output has been implemented for the Fargo
  107.   Primera and Primera Pro.
  108. - Fixed the stop problem with the Fargo driver. (Could not print
  109.   again after stopping printing.)
  110.  
  111. IFF ILBM PRINTER DRIVER:
  112. - Corrected the B4 and B5 output sizes for the IFFILBM printer
  113.   driver.
  114. - Modified the black&white and grayscale output for the IFFILBM
  115.   printer drivers to make it compatible with programs that do not
  116.   properly support all IFFILBM options (Deluxe Paint and Brilliance
  117.   believe it or not). These programs won't work with true black &
  118.   white or grayscale pictures, so the driver now outputs palette
  119.   pictures.
  120.  
  121. OBJECTS:
  122. - Improved the speed of object drawing and selection by 10%
  123.   compared to PageStream 3.0f. The amount of change will depend on
  124.   your processor and the type of object.
  125. - Improved the speed of the Transform command. It is now up to
  126.   eight times faster than 3.0f and three times faster than 2.2. A
  127.   busy pointer has been added while the copies are being created.
  128. - The Transform requester now displays the last values entered
  129.   rather than resetting them to the defaults each time its used.
  130. - Fixed Send to Back, which was broken in 3.0f.
  131. - Due to popular request, a Crayons color library has been added to
  132.   match the color Crayon64 color palette from 2.2.
  133. - Make Drawing now updates the menus and Edit palette correctly.
  134. - Fixed applying of colors spelled with characters greater than
  135.   128.
  136. - Grid objects are now limited to 99 cells as documented in the
  137.   manual.
  138.  
  139. GRAPHIC IMPORT/EXPORT:
  140. - Fixed a problem with Freehand EPS files crashing during import.
  141.  
  142. PAGESTREAM3 DOCUMENT OPENING/SAVING:
  143. - Fixed the document naming problem. (Document names were not set
  144.   properly in 3.0f.)
  145. - Changed Save as Template to work as described in the manual.
  146.   (Opening a template will now create an untitled document.)
  147.  
  148. PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT OPENING:
  149. - Fixed converting of document, color and style tag names containing
  150.   characters greater than 128.
  151.  
  152. PROPAGE DOCUMENT OPENING: (big improvements!)
  153. - Fixed paragraph indents (left, right, first). Note: due to the
  154.   order ProPage processes embedded indent commands, it is possible
  155.   to have a paragraph appear indented in ProPage but not in
  156.   PageStream. In ProPage, a hanging indent command could be applied
  157.   in mid-paragraph, which would indent the paragraph. In PageStream,
  158.   the first character in the parargraph must be indented for the
  159.   paragraph to be indented (which makes a lot more sense!)
  160. - Fixed leading (line spacing).
  161. - Fixed paragraph spacing. (Paragraph spacing is not implemented
  162.   in PageStream3 yet, but now the values will be preserved so that
  163.   when you open the document in a version that has this feature
  164.   finished, it will be correctly spaced.
  165. - Fixed character mapping problems (accented and special characters
  166.   above 128 didn't work).
  167. - Fixed the new line vs new paragraph problem. (New Paragraphs were
  168.   imported as New Lines.)
  169. - Fixed rotated columns which imported unrotated.
  170. - Fixed text wrap problems.
  171. - Fixed the column count problem. The Column tool setting would
  172.   affect the number of columns in imported ProPage frames.
  173.  
  174. NEW FEATURES:
  175. - Added a tip number indicator to the Navigator. Now it will say
  176.   "5 of 103" in the Navigator when you are reading tip 5 out of a
  177.   total of 103 tips.
  178.  
  179. MISCELLANEOUS:
  180. - The Edit/Undo and Redo command names will change to reflect what
  181.   you are undoing or redoing. ie: Undo Move. (This is a bonus
  182.   feature the Amiga version inherited from the upcoming Macintosh
  183.   version.)
  184. - Fixed problems with undoing scaling.
  185. - Fixed appending and saving color palettes (from Settings/Colors).
  186.   Also prevented user from editing black or white, and <As Is> was
  187.   removed from the list as it was not applicable in this requester.
  188. - Fixed enforcer hits related to the page palette.
  189. - Fixed a bug in changing the chapter numbering method.
  190. - Set Grid and Set Guides no longer reset the view magnification
  191.   to the upper left corner of the page.
  192. - Corrected Save Style Tags file requester title.
  193. - Added alert requesters for accessing the help system when
  194.   AmigaGuide, the help files, or a help node cannot be found.
  195. - Fixed the use of special characters (including accents) in color
  196.   names, bullets and filled tabs.
  197. - Create Columns will now display a busy pointer while the column frames
  198.   are created.
  199. - Edit palette coordinates are now shown for the Magnify tool.
  200. - Exporting a macro script now defaults to the macro name, not the last
  201.   used file.
  202. - Changed the way unnamed tasks are unnamed. (If you don't use
  203.   virtual memory, this is irrelevant to you. If you do, you
  204.   probably still don't care. :)
  205.  
  206. SEND TO EDITOR & TEXT CODES:
  207. - New Feature! You can now return to PageStream from PageLiner,
  208.   TurboText or BME by just closing the article or picture window.
  209.   This will leave the editor open when you return to PageStream.
  210. - When text is sent to the editor, the cursor in PageLiner or
  211.   TurboText now appears after the <PageStream3.0> header instead
  212.   of before it.
  213. - Fixed paragraph indent text codes; indented text sent to
  214.   PageLiner would return with incorrect indent values.
  215.  
  216. OTHER MACRO SCRIPTS:
  217. - Added two new features to the Print Font Specimens macro script
  218.   (FontSpec.rexx). You can now select the fonts to print specimens for,
  219.   and choose to print 6 font samples on a page instead of one per
  220.   page.
  221. - Improved Go to Master Page script (GotoMasterPage.rexx).
  222.   Choosing it the first time will display the current page's
  223.   master page. Choosing it when a master page is displayed will
  224.   display the previous page. You can now use it to toggle quickly
  225.   between a page and its master page.
  226. - Fixed the Mail Merge script which wouldn't print.
  227.  
  228. MACRO COMMANDS:
  229. - New commands: loadprintprefs, saveprintprefs
  230. - New parameters for: selecttext, getpagemasterpage, scaleobject
  231. - Fixed the scale parameter for scaleobject.
  232. - Corrected documentation for: settoolmode, settypestyle,
  233.   addarexxgadget, setarexxgadget
  234. - Added some instructions to the help system on using requesters
  235.   from macro scripts. Choose Macros & ARexx from the main help
  236.   contents screen, and then choose Using Requesters in a Macro
  237.   from the next screen.
  238. - Added an example to the help system of how to create a string
  239.   sensitive alert requester function.
  240.  
  241. HELP SYSTEM:
  242. - Added instructions for installing additional fonts.
  243.  
  244. NOTES:
  245. - In 3.0e, a keyboard shortcut was added for Type/ Line/Fill:
  246.   Control L. This was omitted from the 3.0e/f ReadMe file.
  247.  
  248. BME:
  249. - The Edit/Undo and Redo command names will change to reflect what
  250.   you are undoing or redoing. ie: Undo Crop. (This is a bonus
  251.   feature the Amiga version inherited from the upcoming Mac version.)
  252. - The selection marquée in non-active windows is now shown
  253.   differently from the marquée in the active window to avoid
  254.   confusion.
  255. - Closing a window with a selected area is faster.
  256. - Fixed a problem with running out of memory while making a
  257.   selection. This could cause a crash.
  258. - Fixed a problem with redoing an erase operation.
  259. - No longer records 'setbrushsize' when opening or creating a
  260.   picture.
  261. - Some redundant redraws have been removed.
  262. - Undoing a deselect is now faster.
  263. - Fixed a small (24 byte) memory leak.
  264. - New macro command: getpicture
  265.  
  266. PAGELINER:
  267. - New macro command: getarticle
  268. - Saving settings no longer deletes the PUBSCREEN item from the
  269.   pref file.
  270. - Changed About requester date format to match PageStream and BME.
  271.  
  272. TECHNICAL NOTES:
  273. - The PageStream3.printprefs file is no longer used. Printing
  274.   preferences are now saved in the main PageStream3.prefs file.
  275. - The SoftLogik 8 AmigaDOS font changed in this version. If you
  276.   have moved your SoftLogik fonts to your system Fonts: directory,
  277.   you will have to install the new version from the patch manually.

  324. NOTES:
  325. - If you need to force a screen redraw because PageStream didn't
  326.   properly redraw the screen, choose Macros/Refresh Window. This
  327.   is assigned to F10 as the default.
  328. - For most Canon printers, choose the Epson driver from Printing
  329.   Preferences' Type popup gadget.
  330.  
  331. KNOWN BUGS:
  332. - You cannot apply colors to text using the Color Palette.
  333. - You cannot customize a type style's color/line/fill attributes
  334.   within a style tag.
  335. - The Line/Fill button in the toolbar cannot be used for text;
  336.   choose Line/Fill from the Type menu instead.
  337. - You can't copy and paste (or duplicate/transform) text frames.
  338. - There are still some cursor-related problems in this version.
  339.   Clicking at the end of a line will place the cursor at the start
  340.   of the next line, although the cursor will appear at the end of
  341.   the line. Clicking in a blank article of linked frames will make
  342.   the cursor appear in the last linked frame. Clicking around a
  343.   tab may place the cursor on the wrong side of the tab. Pressing
  344.   Return will not make the cursor appear to move to the next line,
  345.   although it really will be there.
  346. - There are some unresolved style tag problems.
  347. - Resizing rotated objects does not work as expected.
  348. - You can't open docs with >50 pages of frames.
  349. - Color separations doesn't work.
  350. - Typing past the end of a frame will not advance the cursor to
  351.   the next frame if the next frame is on another page.
  352. - Spot colors are separated as process colors.
  353.  
  354. We know that typing speed and non-PostScript printing are not as
  355. fast as everybody would like. We will try to speed these up in the
  356. future.
  357.  
  358. We hope you enjoy using this updated version of PageStream3. We
  359. are committed to giving you the best possible software for your
  360. Amiga computer. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for
  361. supporting Amiga software companies.

  363. We don't have much news yet on the upcoming Macintosh and Windows
  364. versions of PageStream3. There will be discounted upgrades for
  365. owners of the Amiga and Atari versions. PageStream3 documents will
  366. be compatible across all platforms, and PageStream for Macintosh
  367. and Windows will be able to open PageStream2 documents.
  368.  
  369. We expect the Macintosh version to be released before the Windows
  370. version, but release dates and pricing are not available at this
  371. time. And yes, there will be more updates to the Amiga version in
  372. the future.
